Welcome to the wonderful world of Gourds. Gourd by definition is any plant of the Cucurbita including melons, squashes, pumpkins, etc., especially the fruit of the plant Lageneria vulgaris, the bottle gourd, of many varieties. The rind is tough, and when dried, is often used for dippers, bottles, etc....
A Gourd Head by definition is someone crazy about gourds, wishing to be with others to learn more, share ideas, and talk Gourd. The Show Me Gourd Society is such a group to gather and be with the gourd kind.
The Show Me Gourd Society gathers two times a year and publishes a newsletter four times a year. "News from the Gourd Patch" is a newsletter about gourds and our members. We welcome stories about gourd lovers and tips on gourds - growing, crafting, and marketing . We have a special feature Kids Page written by kids for kids. Barbara Byrne is our current editor for "News from the Gourd Patch" and welcomes your stories. In the beginning . . .The Show Me Gourd Society is the XI Chapter of the American Gourd Society. We became official in October 1997 and our membership is growing. Our purpose is to gather with others and to share our knowledge and appreciation for the gourd. Membership is $25 a year. This pays for a joint membership with the American Gourd Society.
Membership Benefits include: 1) The Gourd, a magazine published four times a year by the American Gourd Society. 2) News From the Gourd Patch, a newsletter published by the Show Me Gourd Society. 3) Information on sources for seeds, educational materials, gourds, tools, artists and crafters. 4) Announcements of meetings, classes, demonstrations, and a future show in Missouri.
