I cut one gourd to fit nicely inside the other gourd. I cut and hinged my doors. I also cut a hole in the back to insert a light. |
I painted the bottom of the gourd first like a wreath then sealed it with sealer. I also painted the inside and sealed it. I also painted what I thought would be a brick foundation. |
Then I poked holes in the bottom and wired it to a wreath. Now it is stable to add the top. |
I put the floor in before adding the top. The floor is a piece of styro foam 1" thick and 12" in diameter that I cut in half to fit in. I then gave it a faux white fur carpet. |
|
I took hinges and screwed them into the top and bottom of the gourd in 4 places so that it was on there for good. |
I use modeling compound to seal the gourds together. |
DARWI WHITE MODELING COMPOUND - Darwi is a white, non-toxic modeling material that completely hardens with very little shrinkage, after air drying. There is no baking required with Darwi and since Darwi sticks to most materials, it is ideal for gourds. It is the perfect medium for any embellishing where sculpting the surface is required. 2.2 pound block. $10.99 each You can find this at The Caning Shop, scroll down the the bottom of page. |
I wet my fingers as I put this on so that I can smooth it down and I will have less if any sanding. |
First I though I would do a Bavarian Christmas house and I sponged it to make it look like stucco. |
Then it wasn't inspiring me so I went towards a gingerbread house. |
Ok, this was NOT a good Idea but I learn from my mistakes. I sprayed a matte finish lacquer over candy pieces, and then glued them around the bottom part of the gourd where I had painted the brick. This in turn created problems, where I must have painted and sealed 10 times until it looked good. |
I have started the task of painting the inside. |
I painted gourd candy canes and wired them to each side of the door. My house is finally starting to get some personality. | Gourd Projects |
