The scallop shell is ridged and curved and is very useful in loosening the gourd pulp from the side.

 

I use a wire brush on the end of a drill to clean out the rest. .

 

Be sure to have your mask and goggles on because "gourd flies"

I use sand paper around the lip and inside to smooth it out.

Sand to the point you are pleased.

 

You can finish your bowl up by staining, painting or using leather dye on it. I am applying leather dye on this bowl. I let the turquoise leather-dye dry

I brush on another color of leather-dye around the rim.

 

 

 

I seal my gourds with 
MinWax Poly-crylic sealer high gloss. Let dry and then put two more coats on, this really gives it a pottery look.

 

I painted the inside of this bowl black and then painted leather dye on the outside.

I dripped leather dye down these bowls.
