I first cut the ears out with a hand jigsaw

The size you cut will be proportioned to the size of your gourd. I then sand the edges out smooth with sand paper.

I then glue the ears on using a strong super glue.

I seal around the attached area with Elmers wood filler to get a smooth look.

*Hint* when using Elmers wood filler it can be very sticky, if you apply it then let it sit to dry a bit then wetten your fingers and smooth it out.

bearearswoodputtied.JPG (131203 bytes)

Elmers wood filler is cheap and available, it fills in cracks and makes your bond stronger. It is also easy to sand smooth.

After it completely dries, I use a wet sanding sponge to smooth it out.

Now it is time to base coat and give your bear its personality.
