I Love Traditions

I love learning, remembering and living traditions that have been past on from generation to generation. They make my world more spiritual as well as magical and charming.

When I heard about the Christmas Pickle for the first time from a woman at my class commented on the shape of some of my gourds and how they reminded her of The Christmas Pickle. This of course sent me on a googling search to learn of this tradition past on through families. The Christmas Pickle Tradition

The ornament is hidden on a family's Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, all of the children in the house take turns looking for the pickle ornament and the child who finds the Christmas pickle receives an extra present.

The Hamsa

My mother-in-law gave me a symbol that intrigued me. I may had seen it before but never really paid attention to it. The Hamsa is a symbol, amulet and charm that is considered protection from the envious “evil eye”. A symbol that has been around for thousands of years it predates Judaism and Islam. The Hamsa hand, the Hand of God, provides a link with a mystical time. Regardless of belief the Hamsa Hand is a bringer of peace, protection, tranquility and beauty.

hanging Hamsas are $12 each
