When I heard about the Christmas
Pickle for the first time from a woman at my class commented on
the shape of some of my gourds and how they reminded her of The
Christmas Pickle. This of course sent me on a googling search to learn
of this tradition past on through families.

The Hamsa
My mother-in-law gave me a symbol that intrigued me. I may had seen it
before but never really paid attention to it. The Hamsa is a symbol,
amulet and charm that is considered protection from the envious “evil
eye”. A symbol that has been around for thousands of years it predates
Judaism and Islam. The Hamsa hand, the Hand of God, provides a link with
a mystical time. Regardless of belief the Hamsa Hand is a bringer of
peace, protection, tranquility and beauty.
hanging Hamsas are $12 each |
